About Me
β€” My story

Welcome to my not-so-Personal Blog.

A research engineer, foodie and travel enthusiast.

Hi, I’m Dr. Sinemobong, a Nigerian who flew 16,228 km to beautiful Aotearoa (New Zealand) four years ago to pursue a Doctorate (now 7.5 years). I call myself an academic tourist because many of the places I’ve explored have been thanks to academia. Along the way, I realized there’s so much to share. I have experiences, insights, and opportunities for those who dream of a similar path. So I thought to myself, “why not share your experience, tips, etc., with those who will like such opportunities?”

Since moving to New Zealand, I’ve discovered my love for adventure travel through a few mates. I’ve explored nearly all the β€œtouristy” parts of the country and even visited Australia (which I like to call NZ’s older and wealthier sibling). More destinations were on my list, butβ€”pandemic! Now, I’m looking forward to expanding my travels as the world opens up again.

Beyond exploring new horizons, I thrive on research, coaching, teaching, and storytelling. My expertise lies in food process system engineering, though I occasionally dabble in biotechnology, business, and programming. Sharing knowledge is my thingβ€”I want others to learn from my experiences and navigate their journeys more seamlessly.

I’m a forward-thinking, sassy engineer with a passion for breaking boundaries and blending innovation with adventure. I’ve carved out a unique pathβ€”merging cutting-edge engineering with a thirst for discovery, whether in the lab, on the road, or immersed in bustling cityscapes around the world.

I believe in challenging the status quo by embracing both the rigor of research and the spontaneity of travel. My career has taken me from in-depth studies and hands-on projects to immersive cultural experiences that fuel my creative problem-solving and inspire those around me. I am committed to sharing these experiences, empowering othersβ€”especially women in STEMβ€”to pursue their dreams and live life boldly.

When I’m not engineering solutions to complex problems, you can find me exploring new cuisines, capturing candid moments on camera, or mentoring others to think outside the box. My journey is a blend of science, style, and spirited adventureβ€”an ongoing story of learning, growth, and living life to its fullest.

The Sassy Engineer, inspiring and motivating people to challenge boundaries, achieve their dreams and live their best lives.

Fun facts:

  • I love to teach at any given opportunity. I am passionate about sharing knowledge especially via unconventional approaches. As a result, I started a YouTube channel and a Facebook page and group soo my subscribers can connect with me directly. Isn’t that cool!!!?
  • I recently completed my doctoral studies (#grad2021). Yup, I love research. Some would say I’m a geek or nerdy (PS: Not ashamed to be called that #researchgotmelike).
  • I am a part-time model, or should I say, an accidental model. Occasionally, I pop up on cover pages, website banners, you name it. Because of how good of a person I am, I mostly do it for free. Check my portfolio here and here (under Science and R&D). Top players only.
  • I love adventure activities. A girl is not a fan of height but she’s always taking dem risk in the name of adventure. Watch all of them here.
  • I take a lot of selfies. Who doesn’t? All dem selfies are documented here.

I thought it’d be too extra and out of context adding these photos, but I worked hard for it, so there! My degrees.

β€” About the blog

I planned for the blog to be solely about travel and study abroad activities because I have these experiences. Moreover, I enjoy visiting new places, trying different cuisines, and embracing other cultures. Any Nigerian passport holder knows how costly and nerve-racking visa application and travelling abroad can be.

After much thought, I decided that The Sassy Engineer will also be about sharing personal experiences and reflections, especially as a Nigerian female, to inspire and motivate people to challenge boundaries and achieve their dreams and live their best lives.

The Sassy Engineer is unfolding in real-time. I desire it to be a hub where people at different career stages, study levels and travel experiences can share ideas and experiences on topics covered to inspire others. It will be a blog and a content aggregator website for the target categories mentioned below and beyond.

Expect content about anything and everything on travel destinations and to-dos, food recipes, alternatives and adventures, lifestyle and entertainment, shopping – from fashion to food (#foodie), everyday living, and even plain old ranting (maybe not). Priority will be given to study abroad experiences, academia and industry, science and engineering research and trends.

Periodically, I will provide business recommendations and feature people doing big things in science, engineering, entertainment etc. This aspect will be tailored to Nigerian and other African people and businesses in NZ and back home.

To feature your study experience, travel stories and photos, food adventures, and other related information on this blog, please fill out the form.

Don’t hesitate to say hello πŸ‘‹.
