Here is why your country is not important in your new country

the truth no one told ou about living abroad

There are many reasons some countries seem to be unimportant in other countries, particularly the one you look to call home. If your country is considered “elite” then congratulations to you. But, if your passport is constantly looked down upon like the one I have. So bad that even countries that ain’t shit have also joined the bandwagon to ridicule your people just because of their passport. If so, then this is for you.

Moving to another country has its pros and cons. The pros are splashed every where on the world wide web. The cons however are not talked about a lot. That is the truths no one will likely tell you about moving to a new country. Because, they’re probably expecting you to know already. So, this is my own contribution to this much needed gap.

These are my thoughts on the disadvantage of living abroad. On a second thought, it’s not really abou moving to a new country of living abroad, it more about why people from your country are often sidelined in that your new country when it comes to some benefits you feel you should be getting.. Especially, when you are doing all you can to stay out of trouble.

These are my top two. Add yours in the comments.

Reason why you and your community members ain’t shit in that country

  1. The country’s citizens don’t invest in their host country’s economy
This to me is the number one reason why you feel your country is not important in that country. I’m talking businesses and investments on a medium to large scale.

Are you buying and building houses? Are you starting businesses? Are you an employer of labour? Do you have banks or other financial institutions within the country? What about educational institutions like schools, daycare, high schools? Something?!

People don’t talk about this enough. If you decide to take your business else where, will the immediate community feel the brunt

Note: You may be contributing by working a job or two but see you’re still an employee and not an employer. If you resign, will that impact be felt?…. Beyond your immediate team/department.
  2. You don’t have people in leadership positions in their public sector.
You’re not vying for political positions, or don’t have many vocal people in key roles. Why are you not supporting that your fellow citizen who has come out to represent? Why must you know him or her personally before you support him or her?

Do you know Adele, Celine Dion, Barack Obama, Serena Williams personally? I’m guessing your answer is NO (in all caps). Yet, you support them. That is because there is something about them that you love or their principles you support. Same!! Same should apply to those your countrymen and women, sweating water and blood to make an impact in that your new country.

These positions does not have to be political positions like mayor, councilors etc. It could be head of public sectors; multinational companies, NGOs, It could be you or them being in charge of organising important events for the government. Basically, roles that can impart the lives and livelihood of people within your community and possibly the country as a whole,

These are some of the reasons that came to mind. It may read like a rant 🙄.. Sha let me know if you have any other reasons by commenting. Yak aba!
