New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA)

NZeTA

Who is eligible for an NZeTA? Who can fly to New Zealand on NZeTA? What can you do with NZeTA in NZ? Find out in this post.

Since my first video on NZeTA, more than 50 people have reached out to me with questions or concerns about either securing an NZ “working’ visa or about to get one. The story is always the same and so are my questions. So, let’s explore NZeTA again.

About NZeTA

The New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) was launched by the New Zealand government in 2019. NZeTA allows people to travel to New Zealand or transit Auckland International Airport without applying for a visa first. This travel authority allows the holder to visit NZ for up to 3 months, or 6 months for UK citizens. However, this entry conditions and time in New Zealand will depend on your passport, how you’re travelling and if you are visiting or only transiting.

It is valid for 2 years for travellers and only cost NZD$17, or $6 if you apply via the app. Processing time is pretty quick as target maximum time to process applications is 72 hours only.

I took time to explain, the eligibity criteria, cost as well as process in this video on my youtube channel. So, click the link to watch that video but in summary, here are things to note:

Things to note though:

  • Visiting New Zealand means entering and staying in New Zealand as a visitor. So already, those intending to enter and work in New Zealand are automatically ineligible for this permit.
  • You do not need an NZeTA if you already have a current NZ visa
  • If you are arriving New Zealand by sea as a cruise ship passenger, regardless of your nationality, you must have an NZeTA, unless you are on the list of travellers who do not need NZeTA. There are also conditions on how long you can stay in the coutry, if you arrived by cruise ship.

When you arrive at your first New Zealand port you will be deemed to hold a visitor visa. This expires 28 days after the ship arrives at its first port of entry in New Zealand or when the ship leaves — whichever happens first.

  • Citizens of a visa waiver country also must have an NZeTA unless they are on the list of travellers exempt or are comig for mediacl treatment, in that case they’ll require a meical treatment visitor visa instead.
  • As usual, Aussies don’t need NZeTA. By Aussies, I mean those who have the passport. anything below that, you’ll need an NZeTA, unless you’re on the list of travellers who do not need NZeTA

What happends if you take the NZeTA route but are not eligible to fly into NZ with it

Like I said, many people have contacted me asking about NZeTA (“working visa” 80% of them called it) which their wonderful agent gave them. They wanted me to confirm if they can work on it. Firstly, if you get to asking me if you can work on it, then there is a 50% chance that you have been scammed.

When I check the supposed visa, it ends up being an NZeTA. By the way, I need to start charging anyone that ask me to do that. I find 75% are not even subscribed to my channel. I am not trying to build a charity organisation here mbok!! Back to this gist…

These agents charge outrageous prices. The minimum I was told is 800k NGN, there was 1.3m NGN, and even 3.5m NGN. I’ve seen 2000 USD, and that was just deposit.

Recently someone asked me if they should pay 2.6m NGN for visa. It turned out, it was still this NZeTA scam thing too.

Its an epidemic. They are feeding off your desperation. And you are not thinking and asking questions. Go on my channel and watch these three videos (Video 1, Video 2, Video 3, Video 4).

After you are done watching those videos, I promise you, no agent will even dare swindle you. Stay alert!
