Snow falls in Palmerston North. Spring is one of the four temperate seasons. The days feel warmer, daylight stays longer, while the nights becomes shorter. People feel and look happier because of hope for warmer days. Spring comes after winter and just before summer.
Here in New Zealand, springtime officially kicks off on first of September even though daylight savings is turned off on the 23rd. Based on all these facts, October is a month in the middle of spring so why is it that yesterday was a cold as ‘just off-peak’ winter.
Cold snap hit New Zealand and on October 6, 2022 was so cold that it briefly snowed in Palmerston North. Now, if you know the weather in New Zealand, you will know that it don’t snow in Palmy. The last time it snowed in the city was 11 years ago.
Sadly, I missed this rare opportunity because I was working from home so I’d resumed earlier than if I was working on-site. The commute to work would have made me see it. *sad face*
The snow was heavier in other parts of the regions. There were reports of snow on Dessert road, Saddle road, Pahiatua track and even just outside Ashhurst (15-20 mins from central Palmy). South Island had the most snow which is not uncommon seeing that the region gets the most snow even in winter.
Today wasn’t as cold as yesterday, I didn’t even take my jacket to work. Anyway, MetService says it was going to be fine today and God did it. It was fine with the southwesterlies dying out by evening.
Tomorrow will be also be warmer with temperature ranging from 0-17 degC on Saturday, and 4-18 degC on Sunday. Hopefully, it stays that way, or improves, because I have to plant my seeds, attend the Bikimi’s party. It’s also Rugby world cup game day on Saturday Oct 8. Not that I’ll be at the stadium though.
